Our emergency hospital is available to manage all medical and surgical emergencies around the clock: nights, weekends and holidays. You may refer emergency patients as well as hospital patients in need of overnight monitoring. These patients will be returned for follow up care, with a full report including x-rays and diagnostic reports at your request.
Our specialty referral services include internal medicine, surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, and dentistry supported by a dedicated team of certified veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants. To minimize anesthetic risk to our critical patients, this core team is supported by an experienced certified veterinary technician boarded in anesthesiology. Other ancillary services offered by Pieper Memorial include radioactive iodine therapy for feline hyperthyroidism, acupuncture, integrative medicine, animal behavior consults, a fully equipped physical therapy and rehabilitation center, and a fully staffed Antech reference lab for STAT laboratory services. Special imaging modalities on premises include ultrasound, a CT scanner, an MRI and digital radiography including dental radiography.
Communication with referral veterinarians is an utmost priority. A notice that your patient was received at our emergency hospital will be faxed immediately, as well as request for further direction from your hospital when a patient is admitted. Daily progress reports as well as phone communication is important to keep you involved in your patient’s care, followed by a case summary when your patient is discharged.
We will ensure that patients referred by you will remain your patients. Your clients are informed that our services are limited to emergency and specialty care and do not involve primary care.
To provide the utmost in continuity of care, we provide clear and timely communication by using a state of the art PAC system. This new technology allows us to automatically and instantly upload digital images for your viewing such as radiographs, as well as endoscopy, ultrasound, arthroscopy, and intraoperative images.
We believe that sharing knowledge will help grow and strengthen the veterinary profession and enhance our ability to care for pets. We plan to sponsor regular educational meetings for our referring veterinarians and their staff. An exciting new project associated with Middlesex Community College involves a Veterinary Assistant Certificate program in preparation for a Certified Veterinary Technology program planned to begin in the Fall 2011.
With today’s advances in veterinary diagnostics and treatments, we believe that the best outcome for a complicated case is achieved when the primary care veterinarian is an intrinsic part of a dedicated team of staff members, emergency doctors, and specialists, all communicating and collaborating together to provide quality medicine. Consistent with the late Neil W. Pieper’s philosophy, we believe that this strong interaction among veterinarians working together will strengthen the veterinary profession and provide the most ideal care for your patients.
